Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:42, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

editCategory Wiki syntax
editYou are using {{ when you should be using [[ to add categories. This is causing your new pages to show up in the wrong categories. Look at Category:Michigan and you will see a number of town and township categories that you created and put into subcategories but are being forced into the Michigan category by using the wrong shape of brackets. (It is probably a "feature" but I don't see why it would be useful.) 75.41.110.200 19:08, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

advertisments
editHey Dwight,
Please don't upload photo's of busses that have advertisement plasted all over them, or advetisments in general. These are creative works that are copyright protected. It's ok if the trademark doesn't pass a certain level of complexity, like in this trucks case. But a truck like this should have the side blurred. I might make the time to pick out the trucks I think aren't ok--Vera (talk) 19:37, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
I just noticed your picture
editFile:Statue of Harriet Tubman Ypsilanti Michigan.JPG at the Ypsilanti, Michigan article. I spent some quality years there. Anyway, the rights to an image of a piece of sculpture are owned by the sculptor, not the photographer. You might want to look into it. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 17:10, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- If you will look at the Discussion page for the image, you will see that I have explicit permission from the sculptor to upload the photo to Wikimedia.Dwight Burdette (talk) 17:19, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Sorry about that. I looked at the page again, and it still is not that clear that the sculptor has given permission, since "I, the copyright holder of this work" is often used by photographers who believe that the copyright issue of the picture is up to them. It is a lovely work and I'm glad to know that it is gracing my old town. Carptrash (talk) 23:58, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I've edited the description and permission to try to clarify it, and linked to the deletion discussion. cmadler (talk) 12:44, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
- I've edited the template some more to clarify things --Vera (talk) 08:37, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. A barnstar for you!

I absolutely love all of your wonderful photographs from Ann Arbor and the surrounding communities in the area. Please accept this barnstar as a small token of my appreciation. As both a fellow Wikipedian and a fellow Ann Arborite, I really do appreciate how your contributions have enriched Wikipedia's coverage of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County. Thanks so much! International trucks
editThere is a discussion on this page whether images should be categorised as International trucks or International Harvester trucks. Not many wikipedia contributors have contributed to the discussion or voted with their preference, but you have contributed to material on International Harvester. I would be grateful, if you have the time, if you would share your own opinion on the page name. And thank you. Eddaido (talk) 00:27, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
