Flickr Review bot is down!
Hi Zhuyifei1999, are you fine? Your bot FlickrevieR 2 doesn't work anymore and there is a huge, huge queue in the Category:Flickr review needed. Thank you for fixing it ASAP if you are well. All the best, Edelseider (talk) 16:23, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Edelseider: It was down but is running now. There was 16 k files a few hours ago. There is "only" 11 k now. --MGA73 (talk) 16:55, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- @MGA73: Oh, okay, thanks! --Edelseider (talk) 18:07, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
It wasn't down. See Commons:Help_desk#Sleepy_bot? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 18:48, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
Crops etc.
Hi! In many cases when bot cant review a file it is because uploader cropped the file. For example File:Kasey Kahne Martinsville Fall 2017.jpg. Can you think of any good way to make it easier for reviewers?
If the license is good the bot could perhaps upload the original file and review that. But if it is not the same file and someone revert the upload then the "bad" file is suddenly reviewed.
Bot could also upload the original and not review the file but make a note that the original is licensed freely and if it is a crop then reviewer could just revert and review.
I also found some cases where the original was uploaded to Commons under another name (example File:Rogelio Velasco Pérez 2019 (cropped).jpg. In those cases it could be nice to have an {{Extracted from}}.
But the problem is that it would probably make the review proces too complex? Anyway I just wonder if there is a way to make it easier for us lazy reviewers without messing with your bot? --MGA73 (talk) 09:39, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
- (Can't access my main account due to an OS reinstall, using alt for now).
- Some code to recognize if an image is extracted from the original at Flickr is way too complex for the scope of the bot.
- If a file has {{Extracted from}} where the target of {{Extracted from}} has been reviewed, and {{Extracted from}} is indeed true, I don't see the point of reviewing the file again. However the bot is unable to verify {{Extracted from}}. --Zhuyifei1999 (test) (talk) 18:08, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
- Then I think it is best not to spend time to work out something! --MGA73 (talk) 18:12, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes
- There is a new API module for changing the content model of existing pages. Use
action=changecontentmodel
to specify the new model. You can read the documentation on mediawiki.org. [1]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 17 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 18 March. It will be on all wikis from 19 March (calendar).
Future changes
- If you edit a page at the same time as someone else you can get an edit conflict. There is a new two-column interface to make it easier to solve this. It will soon be active by default on the German, Arabic, and Farsi Wikipedias. It will be on by default on more wikis within the next months. You will be able to opt out of the new interface. [2][3]
- You can see a proposed design for replying to comments in an easier way.

Hello! Help Seek
I notice a user from Thailand trying to prevent the draft article: Robam Moni Mekhala to become a new article! Now he proposed most of the photos I uploaded to the draft article for deletion while the draft is on the REVIEW. Is there anyway to help me? Those photo I have the permission (I asked the owner via fb page, thus got them from fb) and uploaded them on behalf of the owner and attached with owner's name, as she was not part of Wikipedia. I'm just a new editor! Thanks if you can help! Antony Willianson (talk) 16:19, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

Why did bot not change the license?
Bot reviewed the file here but it did not change the license according to what was found on Flickr. I have never seen it leave "a bad" license before. Is that new? --MGA73 (talk) 21:08, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late response. I thought I replied but appearantly I didn't. The cause is that the regex simply doesn't match {{Cc-zero}} --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 21:13, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- Don't worry. We have all the time we need :-) So if possible the regex should be fixed I guess. After all cc-zero is a well used template now. Sadly I'm not sure my skills for regex allows me to create a good code for that. This \{\{(cc\-zero|cc\-by\-sa|cc\-by)(?:\-[0-9]\.[0-9])?)(?:\|.*?)?\}\} perhaps? Problems
- Some development will be slower than planned. This is because of the current pandemic. You can see the new deployment guidelines. This is to avoid risks when some persons could be unavailable.
- There was a problem when adding interwiki links. The tool you use to add interwiki links could suggest the wrong project to link to. This has now been fixed. [4][5]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 24 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 25 March. It will be on all wikis from 26 March (calendar).
Future changes
- There is a project to make editing easier for newcomers. The developers are trying to understand what initiatives different Wikipedias have to welcome newcomers. They also want to know which templates are often used for maintenance activities. You can help this project by checking if your wiki's pages are listed on Wikidata.

NASA flickr images and PD-NASA
Can an exception be added to FlickreviewR for images posted to Flickr by official NASA accounts so the bot will recognize the PD-NASA template is valid and takes precedence over the license selected on flickr? The current behavior can lead to situations like this. Jadebenn (talk) 02:34, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
- No. If there are valid reasons why the image does not need the license on flickr, then don't mark it for review. The bot does not do exceptions. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 02:59, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Earth 2020
Hallo Zhuyifei1999,

Empty lines after removing Category:Media missing infobox template
Hi! Your bot here removed Category:Media missing infobox template (thanks for that!), but it left the line feed there. While most of the time this doesn’t make any visible difference (it may, in case the category happens to be in the middle of the page somewhere rather than at the end), wiki code looks prettier without these empty lines. Could you please remove the line feed with the category if it stands on its own line? Thanks in advance, —Tacsipacsi (talk) 14:14, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Commons - Media Search
Greetings,
The Structured Data team is working on an alternative, image-focused prototype for media search on Commons. The prototype uses categories, structured data as well as wikitext from Commons, and Wikidata to find its results. The development team would like your feedback on the prototype, as they are looking to work to further enhance the search experience on Commons. If you have a moment, please look over the project page set up on Commons to find a link to the prototype and leave your feedback on the talk page. Thanks for your time, I'll be posting message similar to this one to other pages on Commons. The team is looking forward to reading what you think. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:47, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Zhuyifei1999. I noticed that your bot removes missing license categories automatically once a license is added. High FlickreviewR 2 login rate
Hello!
Your bot is logging into Wikimedia projects over 2.5K times in a 48H period, which is excessive, and shouldn't be necessary.

Can you do anything about this?

Use of parser functions in MediaWiki messages
Hello Zhuyifei1999! Just wanted to drop you a note to be careful about using parser functions such as {{urlencode}} within the MediaWiki namespace. Unfortunately, most parser functions are not supported by client-side message parsing, so if you try to use one in a message that is rendered via Javascript (e.g. in UploadWizard), it will completely break the message parsing. Commons - Media Sarch, new feedback round
Greetings,
I'm following up on a message from earlier in the year about the prototype development for Special:MediaSearch. Based on community feedback, the Structured Data team has developed some new features for Special:MediaSearch and are seeking another round of comments and discussions about the tool. Commons:Structured_data/Media_search is updated with details about the new features plus some other development information, and feedback is welcome on Commons talk:Structured_data/Media_search. Media Search works in any language, so the team would especially appreciate input around support for languages other than English. I look forward to reading about what you think. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:05, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Mischief Reef image
I happened to look at this image on WP. It looks like a screenshot of a Google Earth rendition of this Google Maps image. I'm no copyright maven, but it seems to me that it flouts or violated Google copyright restrictions (I looked phttps://cloud.google.com/maps-platform/terms?hl=en here]). - (talk page stalker) It’s obviously of the same subject, but quite clearly not the same image. The perspective of the aerial view could easily be simulated by distorting the straight-overhead satellite view, but not so much the variations in the water colour or the detailed appearance of the structures in the built-up area. I also note the ‘broken line’ of white breakers along the outer right-hand and lower-right edges of the atoll in the air photo, which are lacking in the satellite image, which in turn shows similar edges on the opposite side, probably indicative of different wind, tidal, or current conditions.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 02:04, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
