Thank you. I have written to the photographer asking him to change the licence to Creative Commons attribution. If he doesn't respond I guess my upload will have to be reversed. Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 04:20, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

to add a reference. The meta key is often the control key or command key. [1]
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from November 15. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from November 16. It will be on all wikis from November 17 (calendar).
- In Special:Preferences you can choose which language menus and buttons will be in. If there is no translation for that language, MediaWiki has a list of fallback languages. A fallback language is a language many will understand better than English. MediaWiki will now use English when there is no Ukrainian translation. [2]

Flickr files
Hi. I just transferred from flickr File:International University of Moldova in Chișinău (3879035092).jpg, then I found File:ULIM 2009.jpg, an older low-resolution version duplicate of this file. It was uploaded by the Magnus Manske's File Upload Bot in January 2013. I would like to ask you if it's reasonable and if you can to find all low-resolution files from flickr with potential to re-upload for them a bigger original version from their source? I saw that your bot can do this and this is why I came here to ask you. To find such files, a query on DB can do the job, but these files may be cropped and uploading a bigger version over them may not be the proper sollution. What do you think? --XXN, 22:36, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- AFAIK, a query in the DB may not be enough at all. To find these files, I would need the size of the files on commons, and the size on Flickr. The latter is not included in the DB. To workaround this I would have to query the external links, and use Flickr's API to get their sizes. That would be a ton of network traffic. If you have better methods, feel free to tell me, but my time is quite limited at the moment, and I might not be able to implement it. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 02:05, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
- As top priority, I'd select such files to work on:
img_width > img_height and img_width < 1000
(landscape type; smaller than 1000px in width. I think if file uploaded here is larger than 1000px in width, then probably it's already in full size). This will reduce considerably the amount of work and requests to be done by bot. Other exclusion criteria for our DB may be added (e.g.: on the basis of flickr default image sizes), to reduce more the number of files. --XXN, 15:36, 16 November 2016 (UTC)- Hmm. Good point. I'll try to work on this in February (sorry but I really lack time). --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 15:44, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

FlickreviewR 2's down
Hi Zhuyifei1999, Not sure if you're aware but FlickreviewR 2 hasn't checked files since the 16th and there's a massive backlog (no thanks to me uploading over 2 thousand images!), Just thought I'd give you a heads up incase you wasn;t aware, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 23:14, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oh my god 12k files! Thanks for the notification. I don't have the habit of checking my bots every day, and afaik tool labs doesn't have a monitoring framework currently. I just killed the job and restarted it, seems to work. It'll probably take a long time (hours? days?) to clear this backlog. :/ --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 05:42, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Possibly offensive language
Hi! You previously helped me in a case where extremely foul language was used against me in an edit summary ([5]). Now this user posted something else "从前有个T开头的智障,乱回退别人的编辑还不给理由,后来他亲妈升天了。" which Google is also failing to translate completely but I can see "mentally retarded" and "his mother to heaven" so I presume it's something nasty again. What exactly did he say? Thanks!--Twofortnights (talk) 21:26, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
- Um do you seriously want a direct translation? I'd rather not write this, but anyways:

Feel free to cite this in case you wish to report him to COM:AN/U. Btw: Do you have a diff of this edit? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 02:14, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the detailed translation. I am shocked with the behavior of this user, it's so inappropriate. This time he did it on Wikipedia but all these articles I edit are directly interconnected with images here so sometimes he causes chaos here, sometimes on Wikipedia, but almost no action was ever taken against him. Thanks again, I will report him on Wiki AN but we should keep an eye on him here as well.--Twofortnights (talk) 09:35, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Administrators, bureaucrats, oversighters and checkusers can now use two-factor authentication. This makes their Wikimedia accounts more secure. This can be turned on in Special:Preferences. There are discussions on how to best turn it on for everyone. [6]
- You can now search for file properties. For example you can search for media type, how big a file is or what resolution it has. [7]
- The latest Collaboration team products newsletter has been published. It has more details about their work than Tech News has.
Problems
- A hacker group is hacking Wikimedia accounts. They can probably do this because users have the same passwords on Wikimedia wikis as on other sites. Please have a password you use only on the Wikimedia wikis and nowhere else. This is especially important for administrators, bureaucrats, oversighters and checkusers. These users can also turn on two-factor authentication. [8]
Changes this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
- RevisionSlider will be a default feature on German, Arabic and Hebrew Wikipedia. This will happen on 22 November. It will come to other wikis later. [9][10][11]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 22 November at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- It will be possible to do cross-wiki search. The developers who work on this are looking for communities that want to test this. [12]
- Hovercards will leave the beta stage. The Wikimedia Foundation Reading Web team wants communities to set Hovercards as a default option for readers who are not logged in. Communities that are interested can say so on the Hovercards talk page. [13]

New Template
Hello Zhuyifei1999, I have created this template for your FlickreviewR_2 bot. So, it is better to use this template when your bot is review the images from Flickr. MLC4U 10:13, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- Uh, I'm not a fan of duplication. How about modifying the original template so that all reviews after 11:00, 22 March 2014 as reviewed by my bot? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 10:40, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
I can't understand what are you saying?MLC4U 10:46, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- There's a parameter in User:FlickreviewR/reviewed-pass that records when an image was reviewed. I'm thinking of motifying that temnplate so that it checks that parameter and whenever it's later than 11:00, 22 March 2014 it's marked as being reviewed as my bot instead of the original bot. How about that? --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 11:26, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Zhuyifei1999: This is a sock of LTA sockmaster Jhoni jhoni ha ji. Disregard his nonsense. He likes to waste admin time by coming up with all manner of nonsense. I'll take care of the sock here and make sure he gets dealt with over at en.wiki. lNeverCry 07:27, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hmm.. I don't know this sock master well enough to recognize him. The complaint is actually still valid, though --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 07:43, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Changes this week
- When someone tries to log in to a blocked account they will be blocked by a cookie. This means their browser will be blocked even if they change their IP address. This makes it more difficult for returning vandals. [14]
- When you use Content Translation to adapt a template to a new translation it will work differently. You can adapt big templates such as infoboxes. Translators will have control over the template parameters. A first version of this is released this week. It is possible it will not work correctly with all templates. There will be more updates for this soon. [15]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 November. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 November. It will be on all wikis from 1 December (calendar).
- Gadgets will have a new option called "hidden". This means you can register gadgets that can't be turned on or off from the preferences page. Hiding gadgets was already possible by using
[rights=hidden]
. You should now use[hidden]
instead.[rights=hidden]
in old gadgets should be changed to[hidden]
. [16][17]

- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 29 November at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Tool Labs could get two new policies. One would be to be able to adopt tools without an active developer. The other would be a right to fork. There is a request for comment on Meta.

Regarding your remark on User talk:Colin
@とある白い猫: Just noting that from my perspective you're quite involved as well. Being ignored & reverted can induce annoyance / anger (perhaps there's a better word, but I can't think of it right now). --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 12:07, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- I am not annoyed or angered. I am however confused.
- As an uninvolved third party I simply received an automated notice (probably over the bulk addition of text).
- About one day later I went to the thread and simply asked a ten words or fewer summary because the section header was unacceptable and more importantly uninformative.
- About one day later I simply came to the users talk page to give a helpful nudge. I do this all time time, not everyone follows every thread. I certainly don't myself. Here I observed that one other user mentioned the section header problem before me which the user removed so I asked him why he removed that.
- About one day later I came back to see my question to the user was also removed. So I published my observations from the above experience to a public thread on the ongoing discussion that seemed most relevant since it involved the user that warned before me (Revent) and also this user. The user removed that observation.
- Based only on this interaction I decided the user was being disruptive so I enacted a block asking the user to cease this conduct but also explain what is going on.
- I still do not know why this user is acting in this manner where he removes other peoples remarks and warnings, closes threads he is an involved party and also refuses to explain himself.
- -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 13:28, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- @とある白い猫: Well, yeah, nether "annoyed" nor "angered" is the best way to describe it; I don't think "confused" is, either. However, I see removing a person's comments as an interaction (possibly offensive). Colin may be blocked, but not by the person who was the subject of such interaction; in that case such block may be, well, a block by an involved admin. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 13:52, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- What Colin did is not removing とある白い猫's comment; he just undo his action, restoring the closure he made. He well sated that とある白い猫 can restore his comment as a separate section. Hope とある白い猫 learned a lesson now or will see the exit door, soon. Jee 14:08, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Jkadavoor: Your statement is in contradiction with itself. You state that he did not remove my comment and yet he has willingly done so based on his own edit summary which you acknowledge. I will reflect on my conduct but not here. -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 14:21, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) @Jkadavoor: It could be interpreted as both, for the last case. However, I cannot think of any interpretation to find the other cases of ignorance not offensive, especially the "I have absolutely no intention..." part. In fact, I had the inclination to ask Colin to shorten his "wall of text" in the first post, had White Cat not ask him so. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 14:28, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- I can't find the diff now; but there is a recent heated argument between White Cat and Colin recently. That may be reason why Colin didn't reply to White Cat there (ANB). For talk page, it is up to user's interest whether or not to reply. Whatever is the reason, a user is not obliged to reply to other. The Fae vs Colin conflict started very long since a FPC nomination. If White Cat don't know the history better, stay away as no one can spoon-feed him all information. That banned user's play on Revent's talk and Revent's attempt to consider it amusing is also related. I can easily understand what is going on. Colin is achieving community support day by day and he has a wonderful talent to inspire the sportsman spirit of the community. Some people are higly disturbed and playing all wicked tricks. White Cat may be an innocent victim of it as he don't know the early incidents happened when he was in a break. Jee 14:51, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- Perhaps the last part of this one of your summary perfectly explains my feeling reading ^. I don't think I'm among the former, but the latter. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 15:15, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- Yes; and Yann's closing note too. We need a "good attempt to bring the gap between parties". Some food for thoughts. (Editing here is slowing down my recovery from cold and fever. So shutting down. Good night.) Jee 15:23, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Jkadavoor: So I am involved because of some past discussion (a discussion I cannot remember for the life of me) but Yann is not (with a past unblock)? By your logic, everyone who has had a disagreement (even once) must not use admin tools against each other. Can you list users who you think is uninvolved in regards to Colin?
- Also, you almost make it sound like Colin is forming a cult with that inspiring charismatic sportsman spirit. Hmm, then again there are people mindlessly supporting him. Fair enough. How does that make him exempt from policy? How do you explain the 8 minute time difference between Colin demanding an unblock and him receiving it? How do you explain the same unblocking admin closing the thread on Colin's conduct, preventing any discussion.
- -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 10:22, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

to get formatted data. You can also use{{#property: }}
to get raw data. You can see the difference between the two statements. There are also similar new functions in Lua. [27]
Problems
- Some abuse filters for uploaded files have not worked as they should. We don't know exactly which filters didn't work yet. This means some files that filters should have prevented from being uploaded were uploaded to the wikis. MediaWiki.org and Testwiki have been affected since 13 October. Commons and Meta have been affected since 17 October. Other wikis have been affected since 17 November. [28]
Changes this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week. There will be no new MediaWiki version next week either.
Meetings
- The next meeting with the VisualEditor team will be on 3 January at 20:00 (UTC). During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. See how to join.
Future changes
- The 2016 Community Wishlist Survey is done. It decides what the Community Tech team will work on during 2017. You can see the results.
